NASAL INSTILLATION
The patient
who have the problem related to
nasal sinuses, receives , the nasal sprays and
drops . The most common drugs are
decongestants .They are used to relieve the symptoms of sinus congestion and colds.
Equipments
:-
* small face towel
* small pillow
* Disposable gloves ( when PT has excessive nasal discharges.)
* Physician’s order sheet .
* penlight (to inspect nasals)
1.Grather information regarding affected sinus
By
asking patient and by referring medical records
.Assess the
history of the PT for
hypertension , Heart disease,
hyperthyroid and diabetes mellitus
3.Identify
the right PT by- Ensure that right PT
* comparing PT card .
* Repeating the name of the patient Helps easy inspections and administration
of nasal drops / sprays .
4 Assist
the patient in maintaining supine
position
5. Provide baseline date regarding condition of the Inspect the condition of the nose and sinus Removes mucous &secretion for
Helps to reduce the anxiety Using penlight
.
6.Explain procedure to the
patient .
Instruct patient to below nose gently
.a. position allows medications to drain into affected sinus.
b. Prevent aspiration of drug into the trachea
and lungs.
8.Administer
nasal drop
a.
position head properly .
c. Avoid contamination of dropper.
(i)
.Till head back oven edge of bed or
place small pillow
(ii)
Till head back over edge of bed or pillow with head turned mucosa.
c .Hold the spray /dropper above the noses and instill prescribed
numbers
of drop /spray towards medicine of ethmoid bone.
d. Instruct
client to remain in supine position for 5 min

Maintain clean environment and

Assist PT for main training comfortable position . prevent cross infection .

Discard
soiled supplies and hand wash

Prevent
systemic reactions.

Re inspect the condition of nasal passages

Record
medication name, concentration ,number of drops
· 13. Prevent duplication. And time of administrate on the recording shut .
14. Report for any unusual system effects of drug to nurse in charge / physicians .
