 EYE   DROP   INSTILLATION

Definition:- Eye  drop  instillation is the administration of a sterile ophthalmic medication into a Patient  eyes.

Purpose:-

 

 * To  treat  a number of eye disorders .

*To  a anesthetize an eye before treatment.

*.To do a routine  eye examination or during treatment  for ocular disease.

* To diagnosis ocular disease

 

Articles  required:-

*  A medication bottle and a dropper .

*medication order sheet

*A  cotton ball and wash cloth

* A kidney  tray and a paper bag

Points to remember:-

* Ensure that the proper drug is being instilled .

* Eye drop containers should be clearly labeled and checked be fore instillation

*   The eye drop should be monitored for discoloration .

*The  nurse  dispensing the drop should double check of the PT identification and chart to ensure the correct dose is being instilled into the correct eye.

* never touch the tip of the eye dropper with the PT eyes . Touching will contaminate the  remaining medications .

Preparation :-

* wash hands , before instilling eye drops .

* check the medication errors . Be sure  it is the right medicine the right dose , time , person , method

*.look  at the expiration date on the label .

* warm the eye drops to body temperature  by rolling the bottle in the hands for several minutes before the instillation .
