1.      CAUSATIVE  ORGANISM:

                                                          Shigella bacillus .

2.       MODE OF TRANSMISSION:

          The bacilli are excreted  in the faeces and through defection sanitation and bad hygiene, food and water can then become contaminated

3.      INCUBATION PERIOD

                                 1 to 4 days

4.      CLINICAL FEATURE

1.       Dehydration

2.       Abdominal pain

3.       Diarrhea

4.       Moderate pyrexia

5.       Headache

6.       Malaise

7.       Anorexia

8.       Dirty tongue

5.      COMPLICATION

1.       Dehydration

2.       Intestinal  hemorrhage

3.       Intestinal perforation

4.       Renal failure

6.      TREATMENT

1.       General nursing care and isolation precaution

2.       Adequate hydration oral electrolyte supplements

3.       Antimicrobial therapy

4.       Liquid diet initially

5.       Diet should be soft and small

7.      PREVENTION

                   Control of defective and bad hygiene in the community  .
