Regional  Enteritis(Crohn’s Disease)

 

It is acondition that affects mainlythe ileum, but also other parts of the small intestine and sometimes even the large intestine.  The bowel wall is thickened and hard. The lumen is narrowed.

 

Clinical features

1.Diarrhoea is characterized by initially liquid stools,then stools mixed with blood mucus,and finally only blood and mucus.

2.There is pain in abdomen during defecation.

3.There is abdominal tenderness.Nodules are felt where the bowel wall is thickened.

4.Mild fever is seen.

5.Appetite is lost.

6.There is loss of weight.

7.Perianal abscesses may develop.

8.Intestinal obstruction may develop.

 

Investigations

1.Barium enema.

2.Sigmoidoscopy.

3.Colonoscopy.

 

Treatment

Diet

.Milk and milk products are avoided.

.Other diet is as in ulcerative colitis.

Drugs

.Codeine 60 mg 8 hourly.

.Prednisolone vitamins.

Surgery

.Resection o affected segment of bowel and end-to-end anastomosis.

2.Sex:Male< Female.

3.Emotional tension.

 

Clinical features

1.Frequent episodes of diarrhoea.

2.Abdominal distention.

3.Flatulence.

 

Treatment

1.Symptomatic treatment.

2.Psychotherapy.
