ALLERGIC RHINITIS

 

          Allergic rhinitis is also an immediate hypersensitivity immune response. It is characterized by vasodilatation and oedema of nasal mucosa. There is increased mucous production.

 

Clinical Manifestations:

 

·         There is profuse rhinorrhoea (an abnormal discharge of mucous from the nose).

·         Circle under the eyes, a thin white crease across the bridge of the nose from repeated rubbing.

·         A hyper nasal voice.

·         Itchy watery eyes & nose, night cough & morning sore throat.

 

Treatment and Management:

 

          Allergy may be avoided if the primary allergy is due to dust, animal or other inhalants subject to environmental control.

 

Drugs:

 

Antihistamines:- A multitude of antihistamines is available either single or as fixed combination products that also include decongestants

 

Sympathomimetics:- Neo epinephrine in the form of nasal drop is the only drugs in the sympathetically category that is used for allergic rhinitis.

 

·         Child should not be exposed to allergens.

·         Administer nasal drops as per prescription.
