MUSCULAR TISSUE
Muscular
tissue consists of fibres that are specialized for contraction. It provides
motion, maintenance of posture, heat production and protection .
Classification
:
Muscular
tissue classified into 3 types based on location, structure and function , they
are
1. Skeletal
muscle tissue
2. Cardiac
muscle tissue
3. Smooth
muscles tissue.
1.
Skeletal muscle tissue : it consists of
long, cylindrical, striated fibres with many peripherally located nuclei
voluntary control.
Usually attached to bones by tendons.
Function: motion,posture,heat production
and protection.
2. Cardiac
muscle tissue :
It consists of branched, striated fibres with one or two centrally
located nuclei;contains intercalated discs; involuntary control.
These
are found in heart wall.
Function : pumps blood to all parts of
the body.
3. Smooth
muscles tissue :
It consists of spindle shaped , nonstriated fibres with one centrally
located nucleus,involuntary control.
It
locates in iris of the eyes, walls of hollow internal structures such as blood
vessels ,airways to the lungs, stomach, intestines, gall bladder, urinary bladder
and uterus.
Function : motion (constriction of blood
vessels and airways, propulsion of food through GI tract, contraction of urinary
bladder and gall bladder).
