VAGINA:







1.      INTRODUCTION:
It is a female Reproductive internal organ.
2.      SITUATION:
Tube like  structure.
3.      SHAPE:  Tube like structure.
4.      MEASURMENT:
Anteriorly – 7.5CM (3 inches)
Posterior- 9 cm.
5.      STRUCTURE:
















    Vagina has 3 layers
1.      Outer covering- areolar tissue
2.      Middle layer    - smooth muscle
3.      Inner layer       - stratified squamous epithelium.
v  It maintaining the PH between 4.9 to 6.5.
v  It is acidic in nature, which secretes the lactic acid.
v  The acidity inhibits the growth of most other microbes that may enter the vagina from the perineum.


6.BLOOD SUPPLY:
 ARTERINAL SUPPLY: uterine &  vaginal arteries which are branches of the internal Iliac arteries.
VENOUS DRAINAGE:
                                      Venous plexus &  internal iliac veins.

7.NERVE SUPPLY: sympathetic & parasymphetic.

8.FUNCTIONS OF THE VAGINA:-
v  The vagina acts as the receptacle for the penis during coaitus.

v  Provides an elastic passage way through which the baby passes child birth.
